The Principles of Classical Dance is inspired by the seminal dance photography of Anthony Crickmay. The film is choreographed by the renowned Christopher Wheeldon, set to Bach’s Goldberg Variations, and danced by stars of The Royal Ballet.

The piece showcases the poetry of simplicity in movement that was key to Crickmay’s distinctive style and highlights the process behind the creation of a striking image.

Evoking a photographer’s studio with a live pianist, The Principles of Classical Dance demonstrates how a series of elements come together to create the illusion of fluid movement within perfect stillness.
